About Yasemin Alkaya

The Founder of 5. Kat

In 1993 she established Oyuncular (Players) Theatre Group and staged Anton Chekhov’s “Hayat Çok Güzel” (Life is very beautiful) directed by Russian director Kama Ginkas.  The name of the theater was later changed to Tiyatrofil. Between 1994 – 1996 she produced and played “Beni Kuma Yaz” (Write me on the Sand) by Inez von Dulleman and “Günlük Müstehcen Sırlar” (Daily Obscene Secrets) by Antonio de la Parla.

As an actress she  has won a number of Awards including Best Female Actress award at the Antalya and Adana film festivals in 1996 with the movie “Mum Kokulu Kadınlar” (Candle Scented Women), Best Female Actress award from Çasod(contemporary film actors association) and MGD(magazine journalists association) in 1997.

In 1998, she was awarded the Best Female Actress award at the Swiss National Young Cinematographers Festival with the film “Ölmeye Yatmak” (Laying down to dying).

In 2003, she played the lead role in Yasmina Reza’s play called “Yaşamın Üç Yüzü” (Three faces of Life).

Yasemin alkaya has been writing scripts since 1996 for films and the theater and has written seven screenplays.

5.Kat (The 5th Floor) was her directorial debut, which she wrote, played in the leading role, and also produced the film.
